Willie van Zijl is a Chemical Process Engineer contracting and consulting to companies in the chemical and chemical engineering industry. His experience relates to analytical chemistry, laboratory process synthesis, pilot plant design, scale-up of chemical processes, conceptual and feasibility studies, basic engineering and detail engineering of chemical process plants.
Willie holds a National Higher Diploma in Chemical Engineering obtained from the Vaal Triangle Technikon in 1994. He is a member of SAIChe-IChemE (South African Institute of Chemical Engineers / Institute of Chemical Engineers), Membership No: 100077234 and is registered as a Professional Engineering Technologist at the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA), Reg No: 2019300359.
He has 19 years’ experience in the technical, research and production disciplines in the chemical industry. He initially gained his experience at UCOR – Uranium Corporation (analytical and research laboratory practices), Karbochem (synthetic rubber and mining chemicals), Delta G Scientific (process development and scale-up of chemical processes) and AECI Research (research and process development).
He then changed his emphasis to practicing chemical engineering and gained hands-on experience over a period of 6 years during employment at Kemplant, AR Process Projects and ChemengCo – all chemical engineering companies. During this period he gained in-depth knowledge in developing feasibility studies, basic engineering packages and detail design of process units.
For the past 11 years Willie has been consulting to various companies, i.e. Anglo American, SASOL, Aveng Extractive Technologies, NECSA (Pelchem), BFluor Chemicals, Fluor SA and Resonant Engineering.
